Technological Highlights

Lipospheres

All Velartis® formulas include lipospheres as delivery agents. Liposphere technology is used to incorporate and carry active ingredients of different types and for different applications, with the aim of improving their therapeutic properties, primarily their efficacy and safety.

Integral to Velartis® treatments, clinically proven liposphere technology provides: increased permeation of the actives; a time-released delivery of substances; strengthened lipid-barrier function; longer lasting moisturizing effect; and improved overall performance. Crucially, all without any harmful, irritating effects on the scalp.

Key features of this delivery system include:

  • Superior delivery of ingredients to the scalp and hair for better absorption, penetration and dissemination

  • Encapsulation of compounds in a matrix similar to natural skin, resulting in better absorption by the skin and hair

  • Permeation of the active ingredients within the deeper layers of skin, instead of merely dissipating at the surface

  • Release of actives gradually over time for maximum, continued effect

  • Strengthening of the scalp’s protective lipid barrier function, slowing transdermal water loss and minimizing irritation

  • Control over the time of release and duration of the treatment, which can be prolonged or modulated

Key Ingredients

Minoxidil- Antihypertensive vasodilator medication and is used to treat hair loss. It is available as a generic medication and over the counter for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, a form of hair loss, in men and women.

Adenosine- Important bio-organic compound fulfilling various functions in the human body. Recent research has proven that the application of an adenosine solution on the scalp can lead to improved hair growth for both men and women. Mitigates hair loss by stimulating hair growth and thickening of the hair shafts.

ProcyanidinB-2- Powerful antioxidant that protects cells from free radicals. Proven to increase hair diameter and quantity of hair. Prolongs the hair growth cycle and shortens the rest cycle. This compound is found in the skins of unripe green apples.

Procapil blend- Targets the main causes of alopecia: poor scalp microcirculation, follicle aging and follicle atrophy caused by dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Propanediol- Natural, plant-based, skin-friendly, preservative-boosting alternative to petroleum-based Propylene Glycol. With no irritation, enhanced moisturization and excellent aesthetics, Propanediol is ideal for hair care products. Importantly, it is also used as a high-performing carrier for actives and botanical extracts.

Apigenin- Nonmutagenic bioflavonoid which is present in leafy plants and vegetables and has significant chemopreventive activity against UV-radiation. It offers anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-oxidant, and protective benefits. Stimulates hair growth through downregulation of the TGF-ß1 while increasing the proliferation of human dermal papilla cells and human epidermal keratinocytes cells and stimulating the elongation of hair follicles.

Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1- Scalp conditioning agent. Helps to slow aging effects by lessening the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to improve the irrigation of the hair follicle. Increases hair growth, enhances adhesion molecules, stimulates hair strengthening genes, and increases the proportion of anagen hair.

Menthol- Active ingredient that is incorporated for its cooling and scalp-stimulating effects. Increases blood flow to the skin which encourages healthier hair growth. Alleviates common scalp problems like itching, dryness, and tightness. Reduces scalp oiliness from excess sebum production.

Peppermint oil - Essential oil with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, insecticidal, antispasmodic, and carminative properties. Relieves a dry scalp, stimulates hair growth, and gives hair a healthy shine.

Azelaic acid - An organic compound produced in a variety of plants, it has anti-inflammatory properties which can help alleviate a number of skin conditions. Azelaic acid also has mild antibacterial properties, meaning it can help keep the skin clean. As well as possessing these anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, Azelaic acid may also act as a 5α-reductase inhibitor.

D-Biotin - An essential water-soluble B-complex vitamin, biotin is one of the building blocks of healthy hair growth, needed to metabolize fatty acids and amino acids. Helps strengthen hair, as well as combating dryness, breakage and loss.

Niacinamide - A constituent of vitamin B3, niacinamide occurs naturally in yeasts and various other foods. In bio-technical formulations, niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is a heterocyclic aromatic compound that functions as a conditioning agent. Benefits of niacinamide for the treatment of skin conditions have received greater study over the last few years, and the crystalline basic amide is now formulated into advanced products for moisturizing, anti-aging, and rosacea. The compound is used in premium hair conditioners, hand creams, paste masks, lotions, powders, and sprays.
